New to the Monetization Suite: Subscribe from PDP

Blog Hero Image
We’re excited to announce a new monetization tool for Meta Quest Store apps that offer subscriptions, which allows users to purchase a subscription directly from your product detail page (PDP) on web, mobile, and VR surfaces. Previously, subscriptions could only be purchased in-headset. The new Subscribe from PDP tool can help drive subscriptions and enhance the discoverability of your app releases. Dive in below for details on how to get started with this new tool. And if you’re new to subscriptions, learn how easy they are to set up and customize to help drive additional revenue streams for your business.

Why Subscriptions?

Subscriptions are an additional monetization option that you can set up in the Developer Dashboard. They give people a way to purchase Meta Quest Store content through a recurring payment model, and can be an especially great option for apps or games with frequent content updates or other service-like attributes.
You may offer:
  • Free trial periods that automatically convert to recurring paid subscriptions at the end of the free trial.
  • Subscription term periods of one, three, six, and 12 months.
  • Subscription tiers with different combinations of premium content or subscription periods.
  • Introductory pricing that offers users a reduced subscription price for a limited number of terms.
With Subscriptions Analytics, you have access to data and charts to help you understand how people are engaging with your app’s subscription offerings. You can filter the analytics by headset model and time period. To learn more, check out our Subscriptions documentation, and see if this model can work for your content.

How Does PDP Subscription Buying work?

PDP Subscription Buying can be set up in just a few clicks within the Developer Dashboard. During the Subscriptions setup flow, simply select each subscription you want to be available on your app’s PDP and toggle “Sell in store” on. This flag defaults to “on” for new subscriptions. At least one subscription must have “Sell in store” on for the feature to be available.
In addition to purchasing a subscription from your app’s PDP, users will still be able to subscribe through in-app surfaces. In order to provide a better in-app experience for users with subscriptions and prevent redundant offerings or user purchases, it’s critically important to check for active subscriptions tied to users’ Meta accounts before prompting them to subscribe in-app.

What Actions Will the User Need to Take?

Users must first get the entitlement for an app by pressing the CTA (call-to-action) “Get” button or purchasing the base app if it isn’t free. Upon entitlement, they’ll automatically be prompted to subscribe. If they decide not to subscribe, they can do so at any time from the app’s PDP, where the CTA will be replaced by a button that says “Subscribe” or “Free Trial,” depending on whether a free trial is available. Users can then select the subscription they’re interested in and complete the purchase process.
The screenshots above are from the Meta Quest mobile app, but the process is nearly identical in the VR or web stores.
