Today we’re excited to announce that Meta is partnering with industry leader LIV.tv to bring robust and fully-featured Mixed Reality Capture (MRC) and virtual camera support to Meta Quest.
This multi-year partnership will provide you with streamlined and low-friction solutions for recording high-quality footage of Meta Quest app experiences so you can efficiently create marketing materials and help people share the unique aspects of your app with the world.
Compelling and easily attainable MRC footage is critical for driving effective marketing materials and business success. We’ve heard your feedback about the need for effective MRC solutions that go beyond what we currently offer, and that’s why with this partnership we will be replacing our existing MRC experience in favor of LIV.tv’s tooling and SDKs, which enable developers and creators alike to capture authentic MR content using a PC with an external camera in both immersive apps and MR apps.
Whether you want to create polished trailers, share short clips on social media, or show behind-the-scenes moments during development, having tools to gather footage can help you, content creators, and your app’s biggest fans reach as many people as possible and generate buzz about your project.
With LIV SDK v2.0, your app’s users will be enabled to showcase your app’s special moments and captivating gameplay that leverage the full breadth of unique MR and Presence Platform features including:
  • Hand tracking
  • Passthrough
  • Scene understanding
  • Spatial anchors
  • Occlusion

Keep reading below to learn more about how to get started with LIV SDK and what to expect if you have already integrated MRC.

What this means for developers using MRC

If you already use our MRC tooling, the transition to LIV.tv will not impact any existing MRC integrations. To help drive better capture and virtual camera solutions throughout the Meta Quest ecosystem, we plan to remove the MRC download links from our documentation and recommend integrating LIV.tv’s tooling to support your MRC needs.

Timeline

If your app is built in Unity, you can integrate LIV.tv’s MRC tooling today to start capturing high-quality video footage for both MR and VR apps, including those using our Presence Platform capabilities. In the coming months, support will be expanded to include Unreal Engine, along with other improvements:
  • Available now: LIV SDK v2.0 Beta for Unity
  • Coming soon: LIV SDK v2.0 Beta for Unreal Engine
  • Coming late 2024: Official launch of LIV SDK v2.0 for Unity and Unreal

How to get started with LIV SDK v2.0

Below you can find a list of steps to start capturing high-quality video footage of your Unity-based app. If you build on Unreal, you can get prepared by creating an account and getting familiar with integration steps ahead of the SDK Beta release coming later this year.
MRC has proven to be an exceptionally valuable asset in helping developers market their apps with accurate and authentic representations of their app experiences. We’re excited to partner with LIV to provide you with more effective capture tooling so you can leverage high-quality footage to drive visibility and increase sales.
